Our Kitchen

Sunflower Lodge Kitchen

At Sunflower Lodge we have 2 wonderful cooks here to cater for us every day. Food is a really important part of day and the children all enjoy time with their peers while they have their meals. The children all quickly get to know Avril and Emma (our cooks) when they start, when they deliver the food around the nursery, this makes them both very popular with the children!

Our kitchen has a full 5 star food hygiene rating and offers meals at the highest standard. Our menu is designed each month to offer healthy, seasonal and nutritious meals with some added fun that encourage the children to eat well.

Both Avril and Emma have many years’ experience, Avril was a childminder before coming to us and loves to cook traditional recipes and the odd cake which she has become quite famous for at parents evenings! The children enjoy time baking with her and love to go into the kitchen and help out.

Emma has a master’s degree in sports and exercise nutrition, she also has a cake making business when not here and not busy with her own young children. Her nutritional knowledge is drawn upon when designing new recipes, she is very good at hiding all the good stuff within the meals she makes. Emma has really developed our menus around allergies and different dietary requirements.

We support a wide range of dietary choices and we work hard to keep adapting and introducing new things for the children to try. We support families with the weaning process, following a pureed or baby led approach, whichever you choose. Our cooks are able to offer a wide range of pureed foods to follow your wishes.

Each week we have meat delivered from Hargreaves Butchers in Pinchbeck and the preschool children shop for our fruit and vegetables on a Tuesday at the market in town. Where possible, we use local produce and fresh ingredients. All meals are cooked from scratch, prepared each day and served to the children.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Breakfast - we offer a wide range of choices for breakfast, toast, cereals, bagels, fruit, yogurt, pancakes, muffins and porridge. Everything is out and the children can pick what they fancy.

Lunch - homemade soups, sandwiches and wraps, salad, pitta and dips, omelettes and frittatas, pastry roll ups, beans on toast and lots more.

Dinner – 2 courses are served at 4pm as this ensures that our schoolies can have a cooked meal when they finish school. Some of our favourites are pasta, roast dinners, cottage pie, vegetarian Thai Green curry, sweet and sour, Quorn lasagne. For pudding we love traditional recipes, fruit platters, crumbles and rice pudding.
